We at RACC would like to wish you a joyful Holiday Season and Wonderful 2010!

25.12.2009 16:07

DEAR FRIENDS!

We at RACC would like to wish you a joyful Holiday Season and Wonderful 2010!

We thank you for all your support during 2009 – an exciting year of three striking exhibitions and dozens of significant events, creative collaborations and meetings with phenomenal artists, writers and guest actors. RACC was able to accomplish one of the most productive and successful years ever, regardless decreasing grants and tough economic times.

We hope that you will be inspired and moved to support our work with a tax-deductible contribution to RACC - the only Russian American Cultural Center that nourishes cultural life in New York! Your gift will make a difference to our community and us!

We are also pleased to announce that the 72 pages well documented catalog Homage to Diaghilev’s Enduring Legacy. Rediscovered Gems of the 20th Century, which publication was supported by the Russian Mir Foundation, could be obtained through the RACC.

You can also order prints from this unique exhibition – a wonderful gift to the upcoming holidays. Click here to view the exhibition and choose your images!

After the sensational success of the RACC’s 20th century stage design exhibition HOMAGE TO DIAGHILEV’s ENDURING LEGACY and 2009 Annual GALA & Performance at the Ana Tzarev Gallery, RACC’s board members undertook an initiative to extent RACC programming to serve the ever-growing Russian American community in Miami.

The Miami event - RACC’s introduction by RACC Board member Lana Ratner and talk by Regina Khidekel, the RACC founding director, on December 8, 2009 coincided with the Art Basel Miami Beach week. This international art festival which transforms Miami in one of the world art centers, energizes and encourages curiosity and attention to arts by its multicultural population including our community’s fast learners.  It was noticed that the fair was lacking works of the Russian American artists and questions were raised.

We hope very much that the exhibitions, literary and performing events that are conceptualized and realized by RACC in New York, could be soon enjoyed and appreciated by the Russian American community of Miami.

RACC’s mission is stronger than ever, and with your support we hope to make this our most successful year yet!  We appreciate all of our supporters over the last eleven years and look forward to seeing both old and new faces at our events!

                                                Thank you!

                                                                                                                        Regina Khidekel

We have an exciting program and we are thrilled to see you at our events!

Meet the Writer: Philip Pomper

Lenin’s Brother

Russian Bookstore No.21

174-176 Fifth Ave /22/23/Streets, Manhattan

Reading by distinguished historian Philip Pomper from his new fascinating book Lenin’s Brother, which W.W. Norton is releasing in January 2010.

In Lenin’s Brother, Philip Pomper traces the life and ultimate death (by hanging) of Alexander Ulyanov, Lenin’s older brother.  In 1887, decades before the October Revolution, Alexander Ulyanov led a group of fellow students at St. Petersburg University in an attempt to assassinate the tsar.  This step towards revolution, terrorism and change powerfully influenced Vladimir Ulyanov and was pivotal in his transformation into the legendary “Lenin.”  In examining the psychology of the Ulyanov household as well as of the St. Petersburg students, Pomper provides a fresh insight into the background history of “the most important revolutionary of the twentieth century.”

In addition to being an historian and author, Pomper is a professor at Wesleyan University. Adept at speaking to large crowds, Pomper’s exceptional skill is tying in psychology with history to explain a well-known story in a new light.
